Malcolm
East
Esteemed runner Malcolm East has recently joined the staff of Fleet Feet Sports in Pittsburgh.
Born and raised in London England, running came very naturally to Malcolm at a young age. After winning a cross country meet at the age of 17, his parents persuaded him to join the local running club where he achieved amazing results very quickly. Within his first year, he represented his country in both track and cross country.
He then received a scholarship to the University of Arkansas and after one year there he came to Allegheny Community College to be part of their cross country team. While there, he was national junior champion for the indoor mile, and set records in both the 5000 and 10,000 meter distance. He was crowned the National Junior Cross Country Champion and the Marathon Champion while there as well.
Malcolm has competed against and run with some of the greatest names in modern day running. Alberto Salazar, Frank Shorter, Bill Rogers, Sebastian Coe, David Moorcroft, Henry Rono Don Kardong, and Juma Ikanga are but a few of his peers and friends. Some of his PR’s include 2:11:35 (5th in Boston) in the marathon distance, 4:05.00 in the mile, 60:05 for the 20K (one of his favorite distances), 27:57.7 in the 10K and he set the British record in the 30K at 1:32.01.
Today Malcolm continues to run amazing times, but his focus is more on helping others achieve their fitness and running goals. “I want to pass my knowledge on to other people and help others get into this wonderful sport” said Malcolm in a recent interview. He is here at Fleet Feet to do just that; his friendly and helpful demeanor is a wonderful addition to the Fleet Feet staff, and we encourage you to come in and say hello to Malcolm the next time you’re in the area.
